After 6 years of break, in May 2022 the permission arrived to resume fieldwork in the Western Desert. The Italian Mission to Umm al-Dabadib 2022 took place from May 19 until June 6.
The aim of the season was to look for an answer to the questions that accumulated during the remote study of the Fortified Settlement and the Fort. The season was short and challenging, but successful: among the result, there is the retrieval of the first written sources ever found at the site, 4 papyri in Greek and Coptic that will hopefully shed some light on the ancient life at Umm al-Dabadib.
